Just saw that City Landmarks approved a new superhigh apartment building on W 57th st, which will be taller than the ESB. Tall isn't so unusual these days. But this sucker is only 60 feet wide! Yep, 1,350 feet tall and only 60 feet wide. A marvel of engineering to be sure. But I'd be afraid the first time a strong wind came along my multimillion dollar condo would end up inside the Central Park Zoo or something.

I admit it, I'd be afraid to live in such a building.

It's the new trend in skyscraper architecture. There are many "skinny skyscrapers" going up all over Manhattan.

They're skinny not because it's trendy, but because they are reaching for views of Central Park and the difficulty of assembling large plots of land in this part of Manhattan.

There are engineers and plenty of testing done to make sure it doesn't sway greatly. And your average walk up has a far greater chance of falling down, look at how many of those have come down by themselves in the past 5 years.

Though these towers offer little benefit to the average Joe besides making us feel even smaller, they will at least result in construction jobs and a more awe-inspiring Midtown skyline. So keep em coming.

This skinny building probably won't break when a hurricane hits, but I'm pretty sure you will feel the building "move" on the upper floors. Even if I have money I won't get an apartment in this building as I am acrophobia and the swaying will kill me.

Oh, great....Another "Tower of Babel" created to personify humanity's hubris across New York City skyline and no affordable housing.

they also make them so tall because the land is so expensive the builder needs to make X amount of dollars for profit, and only has a small parcel of land so they keep going up, up, up.

looks like hong kong to me, and that aint good
