I'm on Renthop and I'm seeing a 2BR going for around $3,000-$3,200.

Now you split this with a roommate and rent is $1500-$1600 or so.

But what about extra monthly fees? They claim to offer services such as Doorman, elevator, fitness center, hardwood floors, dishwasher, etc.

Now, I know this all cant be included in the rent price, so how much extra should one expect to pay in a place like this?

You're seeing a 2br for that price in a luxury building? Where abouts?

I kind of hope that this question isn't entirely serious.

If the rent for an apartment is 3000 and the building has an elevator, and a doorman and the apartment comes with hardwood floors and a dishwasher... that's all included in the rent. I don't know how a fitness center in the building works though.

Also, in new york saying that the apartment has hardwood floors is almost like saying the apartment has windows.

If you wanna live in a super kewl building with Carrie, Samantha & Miranda you're might need to spend more like +60% of your salary in rent. Nevermind you'll be eating Ramen for breakfast, lunch and dinner... nobody will see you doing that in the privacy of your apartment, besides Living in a high rise in Manhattan is....like.. super chic.
Imagine telling people back home 'I'm living in a high rise in the middle of MANHATTAN' that's an achivement in itself. They'll be...like... so jealous that you are making it in the big apple.

With the exception of maybe the fitness center, all of those things should be included in the price.

Note that the $3,000 apartments might be a starting point thought, and you might not get the nice hardwood floors and a dishwasher and all of that until you move up into the higher priced units.

Interesting. I honestly thought 2brs in luxury buildings in the middle of the city were significantly higher. Then again, I never look into it. I say find yourself some roommate and jump on it if that's how you wanna live.
