East Village you mean? I can't say I've particularly liked what I've tried from those places. They are cheap, though.
yes, technically east village. There are 2 place I have in mind that has been there for ages. Its been over a decade since I've been back. It was pretty good back then
A great new authentic Indian restaurant in Manhattan is Moti Mahal on 63rd and First Avenue. Their lunch buffet is a steal and quite a step up from typical mass produced buffet food.
In Manhattan, for my favorite lamb vindaloo dish I have two choices: SPICE COVE on E. 6th St. and BALUCCI'S on THIRD Ave about 89th St. (Lunch is 50% off all menu prices.)
Balucci's? Do they serve spaghetti with their vindaloo?
I sometime's flub too and call them BALDUCCI'S.
I think they have 4 or 5 locations in Manhattan, one in the Vilage. The food on Third Avenue is really terrific, but no spaghetti. Half price lunch is the best Indian deal in town.
Let me make a correction...I said Baluchi's is at 89th and Third, but it is on SECOND AVENUE...my bad. And I spelled it wrong too.

Everyone knows the best regular place in the city is Jackson Diner, but if you want high end white table cloth Indian then Tamarind is where you need to go
