Yeah, especially the particular area of Crown Heights (near Franklin Ave) OP is describing. Totally different from ten years ago, and ten years from now it will be totally different again. Rapid gentrification going on there.

Great architecture in Crown Heights. Very nice houses. Red meat for the gentrifiers.

I passed by that area some weeks ago, I have to say I have seen a lot of people who either were not Hasidic Jewish or Anglo/Franco/Hispano Caribbean, also in the subway on Franklin Avenue I saw alot of hipsters just chilling out getting off and exiting the station as well as Yuppie types. I have to say Crown Heights most notably the western portion of that neighborhood has changed beyond the point of no return. Crown Heights going east has a lot of work to do. Brownstones and townhouses as well as the 4/5 express train which is only four stops from Manhattan is pretty much ideal place for bargain hunting Transplants.

Also when I last visited the area I saw a increase of white Yuppie Transplant men dating Afro Caribbean American women. Hmm who knew!

Crown Heights like Bed Stuy has interesting architecture as someone mentioned. The part of CH you are moving too has a notable population of Yuppies, it's also the part of CH near the Prospect Heights neighborhood. Go for it!

Safe? I worked somewhere close to there and i doubt it much different from Crown Heights. I only worked there for a week and didn't seem to have a lot of crimes activity but I did noticed a lot of police during the night. Almost every block and in gangs. So something must be up. And when I looked at the saftey map on this forum, it was colored in as orange and red.

From what I hear, it is one of their things to try and increase police presence in areas to help push out much of the crime in the area. It has been a bit since I was last over there, but I definitely like the area, have a few friends that live further out into Crown Heights that I have been needing to visit.
