Lol @ the idea of everyone making a ton of money to live in NYC. I know people make around 32-35k a year before taxes who live in NYC. Young people. I make 26k a year after taxes working copywriting in an office and I could live on that salary in NYC, finding rent for 750-850 a month. As for side jobs, I'd teach language (english or french), freelance writing, bartending, coat check, etc. Do you think every entry-level kid out of university at their first "real" job is making 50k, let alone 100k a year? that is not necessary. lots of people live with roommates.

Also, check for resources with the trade association for medical interpreters: The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI)
Thanks BMW!!! I will definitely be checking these links out...

My hospital has several mini-clinics in it and most have their own social workers (in each mini-clinic). IMO that's a lead to explore because I can't imagine individual social workers knowing lots of languages. They'd need to somehow contact a central hospital switchboard to make a request. Just my guess. Got any social worker friends or family members? Ask 'em.

Sometimes I get to participate in focus groups where I get paid to give my opinions to specific questions. 60-90 minutes usually. Often, a group will have enough males and need females, and that rules me out. Or I'm not in the age range they need. It's very hit or miss and sometimes there are schedule conflicts. For example, tech device focus groups are heavy on male participation, so females become in demand to balance things out (Unless a client wants a male-dominant group for male opinions). I got to participate in one a few months back to critique Samsung's website versus LG's website. That same week, I remember getting a "Thanks but we don't need you this time around" to my offer to participate in another tech focus group because they already had enough guys.

My second job is having to do my own damn chores around the apartment. Laundry, grocery shopping, running errands, etc... Sucks balls.

I usually do Market Research, Studies, Selling Items on the internet or baby sitting/Nanny jobs. You need extra income when you live in a expensive city like NYC. With this economy its not easy getting any type of job. smh

What a strange question the OP asks! Assuming that everyone has a side job is just as off-base as assuming that everyone in New York City is loaded down with money.
