North Carolina is looking worse now than it was earlier today (remember - it always takes time to assess hurricane damage - no one figured out most of south Dade County had been destroyed until almost 2 days after Hurricane Andrew). There is/will be very bad flooding in many parts of the NE (reminds me of Hurricane Agnes in 1972 - I was living in Philadelphia then).
FWIW - I have been very impressed by how your political PTB have acted during this storm. Especially since they have little or no experience handling these things.
And a lot of you sound like a bunch of ungrateful idiots. Instead of being glad that you didn't sustain any damage - while feeling sorry for other people who were hit badly (which happens all the time when it comes to storms - they can be quite capricious - there but for the grace of G-d go I) - you just b**** - b**** - b*****.
Almost makes me want to root that the next time you have any kind of storm (summer or winter) - you'll be without power for a month. Robyn
Funny, funny thread. I live down in Wilmington, NC where we barely got any hurricane force winds and that was WELL before Irene weakened and reached NYC. Us southerners were laughing at the hysteria up there prior to the storm but I'm glad that most of you didn't buy the hype. Irene was a joke. I lost some roof shingles and power for 6 hours. The worst part of the storm was wondering if the power was gonna come back on in time to watch the Nascar race at Bristol.
No comment on your mayor but your media is a lil panicky. Hope you guys bought dolphin free tuna.

It couldn't have been too much of a joke if you lose power for 6 hours.
so no will will be able to get to work, and just like the snow day we had because of the blizzard the companies made everyone either have to make the day up or use it as a vacation day or lose the days pay....no mateer how you look at it the working class people ALWAYS suffer in someway....
the media has short term memory loss, like Katrina, Ike, Rita, Charley, ect. Christmas Nor'easter was worse for the Northeast.
And among hurricanes that hit the Northeast, Hurricane Bob in 1991 was worse.
