I lived there in the late 1970s during the time that CBGBs the place to be. You know, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Patti Smith the Dead Boys and others. It was a cool and interesting time to be in NYC.
At the same time, I traveled to LA to check out the Punk Scene there and I found it to be full of posers and bad bands that emulated the Sex Pistols. It was more about fashion and a look than music. I hated it.
In NYC of course, as I did for a while.
A visit to LA assured me that the only way to live there was to sleep in an iron lung steadily fed with oxygen.
Who would EVER have wanted to live in LA in the '70's unless he had a movie career or was sleeping with someone who did?
All that FREAKING hateful DRIVING, DRIVING, DRIVING. (And the earthquakes and mudslides and eye-burning SMOG.)
Easily NYC. And why stop in the 70s keep it going into the 80s. But then move out in the 90s like it did. Good times were over.
