as i type this, my downstairs neighbor has had his music on from 11:30 a.m. sunday morning, it is now 1:30 a.m. non stop over 12 hrs. Two weeks ago he decided to move in starting 9:36 pm Thursday night until 6:00 a.m. Friday morning because he's moving over one apartment . Constant music, noise, hammering , talking. I called the super the next day, he told me no one was in the apt under me, it's empty and he's there now. Total bs. either he was covering up for this guy or he didn't know someone had moved in.
Come home Friday, same thing with the music, I go down he opens the door and before i can get a word out he starts screaming wanting to know why i complained to the super about him and his music. So... in short, the super had gone to him and told him the lady upstairs in complaining. wrong move. Not sure if i should contact the office about this , they can't do an anymous letter to him, he's already going to know it's me since the super already told him i've been complaining.
It's almost 2 am Monday, he still has his radio on. It stays on 24/7 because he thinks it's really low, i can't hear it. I can hear it. There is pounding on the walls, floors? not sure what's going on. I can hear someone slam the toilet lid down, he's always having "get togethers" and these are not quiet people. Not sure what to do since he's going back to his apartment next door when the building is done rehabbing his apartment like they did mine.
As sad as it sound, the police will only respond where someone is hurt or if there is a dead body,
311 is a pure joke so is the police. They don't even bother
worst offender from what i remember is spanish harlem in the summer. music is blasting on the streets till 5 am when everyone collecting a welfare check and on section 8 housing goes to sleep.
if you value peace and quiet, don't live in nyc. you can't have it both ways.
Wow its been a long time since I've posted on this thread. I used to work for 311 when I was a CUNY student years ago. I hope most of you understand making noise is not a crime and you would need to have an exact address in most cases to even file a complaint. The person does not even have to respond to the door if the cops come and they just leave most of the time. The best option is to move to a quiet neighborhood.
I agree completely. 311 is a joke. I called them last night about a professional photographer who lives across the street from my apartment. He uses professional flash equipment, and has no curtains. Therefore, from sundown until about 11 p.m. there are very bright flashes of light coming into my window every 2-3 seconds. This makes it impossible to sleep! The 311 Operator would not take my complaint because there is no subcategory for it. She told me there was only a subcategory for overly bright street lights handled by the EPA. She offered to transfer me to my local precinct, but I declined since the police have a tendency to victimize the victim. I told her I miss the Quality of Life Hotline. Her response, "We ARE the Quality of Life Hotline!" I miss Giuliani.
I cant stand the airplanes flying so low over my building, they fly 30 seconds apart, that is annoyong. it is all day everyday, that is constant noise pollution
311 did nothing, the FAA seems to be exempt from laws.
i live no where near an airport, and never had airtraffic until last year when the FAA installed nextgen and re routed all the air space.

How much noise does this make?
Get better shades! Sleep with an eye mask! Go to bed at 11!

You think that NYC can change flight routes? The FAA is exempt from local laws.

they can, they just don't want to. and yes, they most certainly seem to be exempt from all laws, especially noise pollution laws.
