Just received an email from Alvista asking me to schedule an interview. My log # is in the 38,XXX’s and I have no preferences. I’m from Harlem and not familiar with Queens, can anyone shed light on this neighborhood? I’d be moving with my 6 year old son

It's basically a nicer version of East Harlem - at the moment.

I just got the email too and my log is in the 31,xxx range (no preference)... Email says it was a random selection. There are 161 studio and 1 bed apartments there for my income, I span three income ranges. March was already all booked but made an appointment for mid-April. Think I will go to the interview if nothing else, for ****s and giggles. I used to work in Jamaica Center back in the 90s but have not been there, except for LIRR/Airtrain station, in a long time. Wasn't a good neighborhood then, I know it's not the greatest now either but I will check it all out before dismissing it.

Same here! I made an interview appointment for close to the middle of April. I used to work in Forrest Hills and substituted for someone on vacation that worked at a Jamaica Estates location once, so that is really the extent of my experience in Queens. I work near Columbus Circle so i'm looking at an hour long commute taking the E train to 7th Avenue then picking up the D. Plenty of time to investigate the neighborhood before the interview in April!
I am a Queens Native raised all my life and I can say where the building has been placed is in a perfect location to travel to the city and the airport. Gentrification is soon to set in that area because that building is being placed there. Its the first High Rise apartment building at that stop.
The area is not dangerous and the police are ALWAYS patrolling due to tourist coming to and from the airport.
You come out of the LIRR and the apt building is literally at the corner. It's EXTREMELY HUGE!Great Shopping area , food shopping a good schools both private and public.
I applied beginning of NOV...Contacted FEB 7th....Interviewed FEB 16TH.....returned additional documents few days later and I'm currently just waiting to hear back at this point. LOG #2O,xxx.
They are looking to fill apartments in April 2018 from what I was told. I definitely will not be passing this opportunity up. I want a 2 bedroom.
Strange i have a log number of 46--- and I got an interview. I Guess its because of the preferences I got.. I meet the income requirements, I fall under the 2% criteria as well the 50% criteria.
Have you interviewed yet and have they told you when you will know if you were selected.

School district 28 is an excellent, highly rated school district.
