I not normally fearful of spiders and don't have any problem with them, except the brown recluse types. Even if their bites are rare, I get very nervous about seeing them in my home. I live in Missouri and every home I have been in has seen at least 1 of these at some point. Usually in the bathtub for some reason.

I read that the brown recluse spider doesn't exist west of the Rockies, with no mention of them particularly in NM (though they do exist in Texas). I am planning on moving to ABQ and I was wondering if they have them there?

Also I have heard of something called a Desert Recluse spider but cannot find anything on them other than that they live in the SW desert areas. Does anybody have experience with them and are they known to get into homes and hide in clothes and such like their relative the Brown Recluse?

Because of home heating giving the brown recluse ability to survive through the winter, they are moving north...I wouldn't really worry about them, though. They really are reclusive.

I've heard of them in the South East area but not in the central, northern areas. The spiders I've seen the most are the black widow and monkey spiders.

Not so. My friend was bitten by one in the armpit, went insane, and died. How to you get your armpit into someplace where a Recluse is hiding? You don't. The Recluse was out on top of some boxes. Beware.

Wow, didnt know cytotoxic venom made people go "insane and die". Im truly sorry if your friend died, but from a recluse bite?!?!?!?! HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY unlikely. Their venom attacks skin cells, not brain cells. Youve got me confused, I cant tell if youre joking or not.

Yes, they are in NM. My daughter was bitten by one several years ago. It definitely has a nasty bite.

Default Brown Recluse

Brown Recluse are common in N.M. and They can do lots of Damage more then the Black Widow. If anyone wants to know what a Brown Recluse looks like and the Damage they can do i can em some info on them. I recommend that people use Raid Ant and Roach around their Homes a couple of times a month. pintada kid at webtv.net

Pest control guys will tell you that they found flying monkeys in your crawl space if they think they can bill you for getting rid of them.
