We're coming up to Timberon next week and planning on doing some yard work like raking up pine needles and getting rid of some of the things that cause fires.
To those of you that have done this, what are you doing with the pine needles and brush? We can't burn them like most people would so are you putting it in a trash bag and dumping it or what?
I hate the idea of adding more trash to the dump. I'd rather recycle it in some way if possible.

In some areas, the dumps or transfer stations will take the clippings, needles etc in a separate location for use as either compost or mulch. Don't know about your area specifically, but you might want to look into it.

Song,
To get rid of it, go left off of Winter instead of right to mine and there is a waste place for trees, pine needles etc. Its only a couple of blocks from your place.
It is so dry up there. We need rain. There is a fire in Mescalero going now.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking this morning, oh geez what are we supposed to do with this stuff when we rake it up. I'm happy to hear Timberon is taking care of that and has a spot.
Now I need some motivation because I'm not a yardworker type person but realize it needs to be done. I'll count that as my exercise along with the rain dance I'm going to have to do when we get there next week.
Anyone want to join in for a raindance? I swear it reallly does work.

The weatherchannel only predicts cloudyness next week, but the weather dude on Chan-7 said there is a system coming in with some moisture in the middle of next week.

A couple days ago it was going to be next Monday, but I would take anything.

I read about raindances one time and decided to do one along with chanting something about the Great One bringing rain. I did it one time when I lived in Tn. because the rain was needed. It poured rain for a couple of days. I was really surprised it happened. I'll do it again this coming week when we get there and see what happens. It does take a lot of mental energy to make it happen though.
Any other fire dangers we need to be aware of other than the yard stuff? We were hoping we could grill but I guess that's out of the question now even as careful as we are.

Cheryl,
Mtncat posted a lot on fire protection on a Timberon thread(I think) in Late Feb or March. Read that and there is a lot of info.
I can hear the water tankers flying out of Alamo for the fire in Mescalero. Hope they get it contained.
