There are other indian ruins near Four Corners that are worth visiting. Monument Valley in Utah and Mesa Verde near Cortez, CO are definitely worth the visit too.

Personally I don't think visiting the Four Corners is worth it if they charge admission. I went there I think a year or two before they started charging admission. I put a hand and a foot in each state just to say I was in four states at the same time, and I left soon after. This was on my way to Durango, Colorado.

Another geographic point. I did not have the time or energy to climb up and find the geocache.
The starting point. Black Butte.

I stopped in San Acacia on the way back to Albuquerque in search of an old abandoned church.

Just to the right at the top of this butte is the Initial Point survey disk set in 1855 by John Garretson denoting the baseline and principal meridian used for the land survey of New Mexico and part of Colorado.

Time was too short to hike it and see the disks or to find the old church.

The land where the monument lies is within the Navajo Nation and administered by their parks and rec department. They charge $5 per person to enter.

That's cool. It looked like that in the mid 1970s when I was there as a young boy, about 7 years old. My step-grandfather had taken me on a road trip through northern Arizona via Monument Valley etc. By the time we got to the Four Corners monument I had to pee badly. There was no bathroom and no people for miles. My step grandfather suggested I pee in four states at once, so I stood on the monument stone and spun in a circle and did just that.

Apologies to all those Millennial youngsters that lie down and take selfies of themselves lying in that same spot nowadays.
