You all realize that that original article was retracted because of misleading information right? It was in the end no where near 2 million dollars - I believe the actual increase was 2.2%, $186k or so. Christie has a wife and apparently it is required to have a 'Office of Protocol' assigned to them (perhaps this position could be removed) and it also includes the staff to support Guadagno - our Lieutenant Governor as well.

All things considered that's pretty good for all of the new staff that are now required to serve. If Christie's pay was considered I think the number increases to 4.3% - as Corzine did not take any pay for being governor ($1). Perhaps Christie could take a pay cut himself - but considering the amount of work that he has before him these next 3.6 years I think he deserves the pay he earns.

It makes him look like someone who is willing to playing favorites when it comes to making cuts. He needs to make it clear that any required belt tightening is something that will be applied fairly, and not just to his political opponents. Otherwise, he will be just another one term governor.

Why let facts get in the way of a good, partisan story?

If he were to take a paycut or somehow cut back the governors office payroll he would seem a lot more credible.

Why a pay cut? He makes $175K which as leader of the state is a decent but modest salary...the Toms River school superintendent who's home was just raided makes $226K for running Toms River schools not the entire state...

His salary did raise the costs because Corizine being a millionaire only accepted $1.00 as salary
