Why not just raise the gasoline tax? I think NJ is fourth from the bottom nationally in this regard. Transportation is one segment of state government that is very hard to cut.

I don't know why anyone campaigned for this job, quite honestly! The other 49 states have varying degrees of similar crisises as well. The next 5 years are going to be really tough on state budgets.

You could apply for season tickets of your favorite Louisiana franchise.

What happened with the vacation to San Diego?

The responses so far have been *extremely* interesting (well, not really considering Christie has an R next to his name). Especially yours Mike, considering this post:

I guess Corzine didn't raise *every* tax he could, huh?

Folks, we ain't see nothin' yet.

We can only hope but I don't see anything coming from the Christie camp that sounds encouraging just yet..and I voted for him

If Christie doesn't put any tough strings attached to how new monies are spent then the political machines and hacks will just pi$$ it away and he will just be sending us down the same path to the bottom as his predecessors.

We gave Gov Corzine four years to accomplish something, now it's Christie's turn.

There are no excuses for failure, or at least moving in a positive direction fiscally, at that level, imo.

NJ deserves much better than it's getting considering the amount of money it collects.

Default more dedicated taxes...I think not

Dedicated taxes go into the general fund!!!!!!

I don't care how sympathetic the cause may be. Raise the gas tax and it is anybodys' guess as to where that money will end up.

We have a history of money disappearing. Money for emergency workers many years back for example. Someone noticed the money disappeared. An investigation came up blank. The lost money joined the big herd in the sky and it was good!

Want money? Cut the waste!
Can't do it?
Find someone who can!

The gas is a sacred cow for the residents of NJ, not a cash cow for state officials. Low gas taxes are like a teddy bear, it is there for our comfort and security and has become a symbol of the last vestige of NJ pride. It belongs on the state flag.

He would have raised the gas tax had he been reelected.
