Just be aware of the College of New Jersey & Rider University being nearby. I don't think those kids get too rowdy, but you don't want to end up in a neighborhood that is filled with drunken college kids every weekend.
Some of the area immediately bordering Trenton is a bit ghetto. The area bordering Pennington and Lawrenceville is super nice. The rest is somewhere in the middle. IMO Ewing is okay, but I would be sure to check out the schools carefully if you have young ones for safety.
I agree with Christina about some of the areas in Ewing, there are some lovely quiet neigbourhoods and then some not so good.
Mead is right on too, there are several landlords who rent to the college students in Ewing. I just read an article in the paper about a landlord who got so much flack about students parking all over the streets that he paved his front yard for parking Every year there are complaints in several Ewing neighbourhoods about questionable student activity.
Also, the schools don't have a great rep.
I concur with what everyone said. Ewing has The College of NJ which is a fantastic school. But it is a major state college in the suburban town. Move in day and graduations wreak havoc on traffic. Lawrenceville, which borders Ewing is really nice, and you also border Trenton.
I grew up in Ewing, within walking distance of Trenton State Teachers College...now known as the College of NJ, and graduated from Ewing high school 30 years ago. It's certainly not as nice as it was say 20 years ago and you could do a lot better than the public school system there. My son graduated from there also a few years ago was a AP and honors student and got outta there ok with no help from them I might add. I also know very well many of his school mates. IMHO the school spends way too much time trying to be PC and bending over backwards trying to help kids that just wanna hang out,be cool and do as little as possible. Meanwhile the handful of really bright hardworking students are left to make it all on there own. I moved out of Ewing about 15 years ago and at this point I would not count on the school system to offer much support to an excellent student.
I'm sure this will PO any Ewing teachers on here but I have to go by my personal experience and the experience of my sons friends..
I live there now and am trying to get out myself. I have to say there are some wonderful teachers here but, if your child is young and smart, the GT program does not start until 3rd grade. The class size is also high with many of the classes not having aides to help the teachers. I am not too sure about the middle and high school but please do your research.

The landlord paved his front yard because of a new ordinance. You need a parking space for every household member of legal driving age whether or not they have a car or a license. I don't know if the ordinance is still in effect, but when you need to get ordinances on the books like that, there's an issue. Have you considered Lawrence or Hamilton? Good luck on your search.
I'm trying to reply to the person whom wants to move to Ewing....seems to be a nice little town however if you have children you may wish to think twice about relocation to this jurisdiction. The high school is slowly turning into Trenton Central High, and the taxes will kill you.Gangs are slowly moving in also read the Trentonian daily it is a "rag sheet" however they lay it on the line and rarely "sugar coat" their stories. This morning May 29th 's issue reported a bullet was shot at a cab traveling through Ewing.Move to Pennington or Hopewell real estate prices will kill you(unless you are well to do ) but at least you'll have peace of mind .
Good-luck
