I may have to commute from Trenton to JC in the summer months, in the evening, around 5:30 or 6:00. I know the Turnpike going south is pretty bad during the evening rush hour. Can anyone inform me how bad the traffic is northbound, especially as you get up around Jersey City? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
You shouldn't hit traffic at all unless there's an accident or something. As far as in JC itself - the only problem would be by the Holland Tunnel - so have alternative routes if you have to go by the tunnel. You are going opposite traffic.
Traffic going northbound between Exit 6 and Exit 8A can be pretty brutal in the evenings ESPECIALLY on Fridays and Sundays. I don't think you would hit much traffic up toward Jersey City going NB at that hour but I am not certain.
I used to do a reverse commute from Woodbridge (exit 11) to Jersey City (exit 14C). There is no traffic between those exits at that hour, unless there is an accident.
the only trouble spots would be between exits 6 to 8a and then exit 14a (Bayonne). you can tune into 1610 am when traveling on the trnpk, for traffic alerts.
