Hey guys,

I'm a 25 year old guy who's looking to move closer to work, which is in Roseland. I currently live in Central NJ, so I'm not all that familiar with Morris and Essex country (and the surrounding areas).

I'm looking for a place that is close to work but relatively young (I know there are lots of professionals and families in this area). Being near a train station is a plus because I enjoy going to NYC. Cultural events and things to do are a plus as well. While I'm not poor, I don't need the most luxurious apartment in the world. Middle of the road is good for me. What can I expect to pay? Thanks in advance!

I'm definitely looking to rent for the next year, not buy.

I would look in Montclair or Morristown, and expect rent to be around $1200 for a 1br.

Thanks. I like Mo-Town, but Montclair is further east, which is better for me. Oh, I'm probably looking at sharing a 2 BR with a friend. Are average 2B for $2,000 reasonable?

You should be able to find a 2br for $2000, even a little less.

What parts of Montclair should I be looking into? Can anyone recommend fun things to do there? Thanks.

There's a few areas.....in/near the center of town, Watchung Plaza, or Upper Montclair (Valley Rd area). Apt buildings and private home rentals all over the place. If you would prefer to walk, I'd go for the downtown area. There's a building on the corner of Bloomfield Ave and St. Luke's Pl, across from the museum. You could walk to all the shops, restaurants, movies, etc. from that location. The other areas I mentioned are nice, walkable also, but not as much to do there for a guy your age.

anywhere near bloomfield ave would be great. lotx of restaurants of every type and taste. cafe's, outdoor seating. shops of all kinds. its a walkable town and saturday mornings everyone is out walking, window shopping, having breakfast. this continues all day into night. and its not just on saturdays. its the only town around there where people are not hiding in their homes after work...

I live in the town next to Montclair, Glen Ridge. Montclair would be great for what you're looking for. Look for a place near Watchung Ave and near Valley Road and Bellevue Ave. There are plenty of restaurants around there too. You can also look near Bloomfield Ave along Valley Rd and Park St. too. Try to shy away from the lower end of Montclair. There are more "incidents" there, but I think the rent would be less too.

I would focus my area on the intersections of 1) Watchung Ave. & Valley Rd. and 2) Bellevue and Valley Rd. and 3) Bloomfield Ave and Park St and 4) Bloomfield Ave and Valley Rd.

I looked into renting there three years ago. I think you could find a 2 bedroom for about $1800-2400 a month. Look into homes as well as apartments. You have have to pay a realtor fee for some of the homes though.
