They use the Waterfront connection at Kearny (near where I-95 crosses the tracks), so they split from the Northeast Corridor before the Portal Bridge and before the tunnels, which are the two big trouble spots.

So there's your answer. Get up WAY too early and take the 5:33, get to Hoboken at 6:29 and take the next 33rd street train (6:40, unless you can run REALLY fast and get the 6:30) and get there at 6:54. The 6:18 from Netherwood will get you there via the 7:06 at 7:49, and the 8:04 from Netherwood will get you there via the 8:48 at 9:31. (there's no good connection to the 7:44).

Since you can get to Penn Station in about an hour from Netherwood, I'd stick to NJT. Especially since the way home is even worse; there's only two evening westbound trains from Hoboken to Newark Penn (this is because the Waterfront Connection is only one track, and it's set up to be convenient eastbound)

Well honestly, getting to work isn't the issue. I can do that in about an hr and 15 mins or so, but getting home is always a debacle with missing the connecting train, etc.

Basically you're not going to do any better by using PATH. If you miss the connection you wait 20-30 minutes for most of the evening, and alternate routes are equally as bad all the time.
