I saw a house we like but found it odd when I asked the realtor who was the sellers agent(not mine). I asked the realtor who was the builder as atleast I can try to find out the builders reputation. the sellers agent then proceeded to ask me why I am asking and said to me it is like me asking him how he likes his car. I found this very odd. I guess he does not want me to talk to the builder which seems even more scary. the house is already built. Any opinions appreciated.

Is this new construction, or a resale house? How old is the house?
I would ask YOUR realtor. If they won't tell you, find someone with your best interests in mind. If they won't do the research, find someone willing to put in the effort* -- they are likely getting a five-figure paycheck (indirectly) from you and should do the homework once you've narrowed down to a handful of places, or they're not worth the cash. If they do tell you, then great; you know you're working with a professional and can do your own due diligence.
*If it's a really old house and the records just aren't available anymore or whatever and they're upfront about it, that's cool too. Finding who built a house 50 years ago is likely much harder than 10, but, I'm not in the industry so just going on a limb here.
Without knowing the age of the house, if it is not antiquated, there should be a record at the Town clerk's office. Usually the previous owners are listed and the first owner should be builder who bought the property. Check for Full Disclosure.
Personally I would not deal with this realtor and walk away.
If you can't get builder information and the realtor is not helpful, dont walk away -- RUN away!
