Grove Street is in the neighborhood of Harismus Cove which is nice, lots of restaurants, grocery stores, some bars, etc. Demographic are mid 20's to 30's...ton of students.
Journal Square is a lot more urban, it has a large South Asian community with their businesses strewn across Newark Ave. This is the oldest settlement of South Asians in the state. At night after everything closes it does get a bit sketchy IMO. Stick with Grove Street.
Grove St. is like the Brooklyn of JC. Lots of hispters, lots of dogs, lots of really good bars and restaurants. They just opened a barcade there, and the beer garden is always fun. There's also a kyochon.
