I'm moving to NJ next month and thinking to live in Jersey City or Hoboken . I need some help and advise on commuting. How bad is commuting on I-78 W then to Rt 9 S in the morning, and reverse direction in the afternoon? And how much is the toll for each way? Is there an alternative way to avoid the toll?
Can anyone advise also where to live in NJ for the best commute to Union?
Definitely can be done toll free several ways.
US Truck 1&9 over to US 1&9 and the either I-78 (toll free at that point) or US 22 to Union,
or US 1&9 Skyway from J City and the same way, I-78 or US22.
It shouldn't be more than 25 or 30 minutes, as few as 15 to 20, unless there is a jam somewhere.
I-78 has been getting redone around Hllside & Union, US 22 has been getting fixed up near the "S"turn under the railroad overpass near Weequahic Park. 22 used to get flooded when it rained a lot around there, maybe the new fixup takes care of that. I used to be leary of getting on 22 West on rainy days due to that.
I've driven that run many days and never take the TurnPike part of 78 from J City. It's longer, has tolls and you're likely to get stuck in jams you can't get out of. That road is for tourists.
