Hi, my boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Lake Tahoe for January. We are planning on skiing/snowboarding and also want to experience Tahoe in other ways....Hikes, the lake, the little shops, good restaraunts, bars, etc. Where is the best place to stay? Which part of the lake, or area? We aren't very into gambling, so it doesn't need to be close to hood casino's neccesarily. Just close to a good ski resort, and close to other things to do. We'd like to find a condo....any suggestions on specific condos, or even just what part of town that seems to be best to stay would be very helpful! Thanks!

Frankly either stay in Squaw Valley or stay in Incline Village (while you have two ski resorts nearby in Incline, I would recommend skiing Mt Rose). The nice thing about Incline Village is while it does have a casino. It's just one... the Hyatt. It's small and low key. So it is really nice.

South Lake Tahoe has Heavenly (a massive mountain), larger crowds, more gambling centered, etc.) You can go visit it, but I much prefer Incline.

If it's Skiing which is the primary focus... I've skied all but two mountains around Tahoe... Squaw frankly is my 2nd favorite ski resort in the world, and in my opinion the top in the Tahoe area... Mt Rose has my favorite run however, and is a fun day of skiing as well...

as for speaking from experience... I usually get to Tahoe 2-3 weeks a year, and have visited well over 40 times in my life.

Pick Incline. It's in the middle of Squaw and South Lake... so you can still visit other locations around the Lake easily if you want to.
