I'm not anti Publix what so ever, I think its a nice store and I stop in when its more convenient, but I'm not going to let someone in this thread falsely state that Publix is just as cheap as Wal-Mart. Come on guys every realistic person reading this knows better than that. Publix is a nice store and the people are friendly, but I don't go to the grocery to socialize with the employees. I mean I'm friendly to them all, but I'm there to buy groceries and leave.

Actually, if you fully take advantage of double coupons and BOGO, Publix can be cheaper than Wal-Mart. You can find sites where people post their Publix receipt photos and they have like $100 worth of groceries for $17.

Rumour has it that a Publix is opening in Donelson this Oct and everyone I know is thrilled. I go into my local Kroger with a good attitude and come out unhappy and ticked off. The employees do not know where the products are and more than once I've seen customers line up at registers with idle employees watching them and doing nothing but talk among themselves. Oh, and try to get Star Train tickets at the CS desk - it's laughable. Also, I was told by a produce worker that even in season Kroger does not buy local veggies or fruit. (Actually, I don't think Publix does either - which is a shame.) I asked for frozen Lenders' onion bagels and was told that they weren't made any longer. I went five miles to Publix and got them. Publix, we're waiting for you!!

Okay; I read all the posts. We have lived here for just one month, nad looked at a number of different stores. here is what we found:

1.) We miss Wegman's! We have lived in six cities and three States and nothing ever comes close to Wegman's. If they are scanninbg the web and reading this; PLEASE come to Nashville...you will win big market share!

2.) For low cost meat, shop at Costco's (several, we like the Franklin one). Good quality and much cheaper than others.

3.) For Freshest and open mmarket feel (like Wegman's market) shop at Whole Foods Mart.

4.) For upscale with a nice selection and good customer service, shop at Harris Teeter.

5.) For everyday needs and groceries (if you just want everything in one place): (1) Harris Teater; (2) Publix; (3) Kroger (based on variety & service..prices are high to low but not a huge difference).

6.) All in all, Krogers is our last choice. For us its Costco for meat; whole foods for hip & fun; and Harris teater for everything else. Publix when we dont want to drive far. Kroger when we are drunk (just kidding).

Donelson has not had a good grocery store during my seven years here. At least we had a choice between okay and worse when Food Lion was open. When they left, so did any kind of real competition. This Kroger has gone rogue on their customers. The produce is horrible, and I rarely sense any appreciation from the employees in response to my frequent shopping.,, just a general feeling of "NEXT PLEASE".

I've almost totally given up on this Kroger. I drive all the way to the Old Hickory Publix for my big shopping. If I forget something or need to make a quick run, I'll use Kroger.

Someone please open another Grocery store in Donelson. The area is suffering because of the lack of productive competition.

I noticed a sign that the Food Lion on New Shackle in Hendersonville is closing. Never been in there, terrible location and a fantastic Kroger on the other side of the highway probably killed it.

I love the new Kroger near Nolensville. There isn't a Publix yet in Knoxville, so when I moved here, I didn't understand the hype. I've gone in a few times, and I still don't get the hype. Sure, the employees are a little more smiley than usual, but they don't have as great of a variety as Kroger. Plus, I love the rewards for gas program at Kroger/Shell stations.

I agree. Higher prices and less variety cancel out the "friendly service."

The store didn't feel clean or like anyone cared about it. I hope they can find a good use for the building.

not sure of there will be any Food Lion left in the Nashville market?

The best you can hope for is a Publix or Harris Teeter. Trader Joe needs another Nashville store. Kroger is good if you need cheap gas. Owners of SUV's may need the gas discount to bring home groceries.
