I don't mind a good project but I'm excited just for the inexpensive decorating accents and the cafe inside the store.

The Nashville IKEA will be in the Century Farms mixed-use development on the west side of I-24 in Antioch. They're planning on a 2020 opening. IKEA says it has 140,000 customers in the Nashville area (I'm one of them).

Ikea announces opening date for Nashville store, and the countdown begins

At 341,000 square feet, it won't be the largest IKEA, but it'll be larger than some. Here's how it measures up to some other IKEA stores:

Saint Louis - 380,000
Atlanta - 366,000
Kansas City - 359,000
Charlotte - 356,000
Columbus - 354,000
Tampa - 353,000
Cincinnati - 344,000
Nashville - 341,000
Dallas-Frisco - 310,000
Orlando - 310,000
Salt Lake City - 310,000
Houston - 300,000
Indianapolis - 296,000
Dallas-Grand Prairie - 290,000
Jacksonville - 290,000
San Antonio - 290,000
Memphis - 271,000
Austin - 252,000

I "follow" a Huntsville AL news outlet on Facebook and they reported it too...seems like they were excited that an IKEA was closer to N AL than Atlanta.

I guess I'll just have to check it out, but I don't quite get it. What's the draw to IKEA?

They pioneered the "flat-pack/self-assembly" system making new furniture affordable for college-age and young adults. It wasn't just the appeal of price and ease of transport but the designs were a departure from traditional, stodgy "parent's furniture." If you couldn't afford grown-up heirloom furniture and didn't want used/vintage Ikea was about the only option.

Plus the stores are fun and feature a play room for kids and a restaurant.

Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce and mashed potatoes in their cafe, so good!

It's also a good place for inexpensive accessories and things like desks/chairs for kids rooms. And inexpensive furniture for starter homes.

Plus they have some pretty kitchen designs and great storage pieces.

I try to go to IKEA at least once a year when I'm in Atlanta.

I live a mile away from the one in the Central West End in St Louis. I've been twice since they opened.

It's good for towells, shower curtains, rugs, containers and things like. The food is very good and inexpensive. I love the little grocery section. Target could never compete with price and quality on those items. The furniture is good for college apartments but nothing that I like.

It is definitely a draw for retail tax dollars from far outside the city. People love "Ikea" in rural areas. It may trigger some more development around Antioch and bring in lots of traffic so get ready.
