That would be a heck of a long flight.

Yes it would. Delta's nonstop from Atlanta to Tokyo is 14.5 hours.

I honestly don't know if BNA could support a nonstop to Tokyo, but I could definitely see Nashville supporting a direct, one-stop flight to Tokyo. Delta is trying to build up its SLC hub and already has seasonal nonstop from SLC to Tokyo. I could see DL making it a permanent flight with it originating in Nashville. Or, I could see United doing it with SFO as the one stop between BNA and NRT.

I would think the United option with a stop in SFO would make a heck of a lot of sense. Especially if in the coming months SWA's BNA to OAK route is exceedingly profitable.

Otherwise, I too have a hard time seeing a direct flight to Tokyo making much sense here.

I've flown into SLC on Delta and have to say it is a nice airport. Easy to get around, fairly quiet, efficient. And supposedly it has one of the top on time percentages in the nation.

I've flown that SFO-NRT route, and it's not a bad flight at all although slightly longer than flying from SEA. I'm no expert on these things, but I do know that airlines often look at how many frequent flyers they have in an area before deciding to add service to an airport. In that case, Delta may be more likely to do a one-stop BNA-NRT route (through either SLC or DTW) since there are more DL frequent flyers in the area as evidenced by its SkyClub at BNA. On the other hand, maybe DL wouldn't want to siphon traffic from its ATL-NRT route, in which case United might be more likely to do a BNA-SFO-NRT flight. Who knows. In any event, I think it'll be sooner rather than later that Nashville will have a direct flight to Tokyo. (Same goes for London...)

I found this today. It's a NBJ arricle on efforts to get a nonstop flight to Tokyo from Nashville.

Love this. I am not a SWA frequenter, but this is great for the city. Now if we can get out BNA - Heathrow direct back, then that would be great.
