We would like our kids 17 and 12 to see live music in or around Downtown Nashville. Are there any kid friendly downtown restaurants or bars that frequently have live music? Or possibly places that kids are allowed before a certain time of night? Thanks for any input!

The Bluebird Cafe | Nashville, TN

Good food and great music. I have been taking my kids there for 10 years.

Have fun!

I have seen a few people bring children to The Station Inn, which has some of the best live music in the city, particularly bluegrass. (I'm not sure whether there is an official policy on kids or if they have to be there before a certain time etc. You might want to call The Station Inn to ask.)

FYI, the Station Inn is NOT downtown in the District (a huge plus in my opinion), but rather off on its own in The Gulch among highrise condos and trendy restaurants.

The first placed that jumped to mind for me was Rocketown. It was started by Michael W. Smith (Christian performer) with the idea of having a young adult-friendly place to see young adult acts. Everything is alcohol and smoke free from what I understand. No idea on how often there are shows, though. It's not a steady music venue with a house band or anything like that.

I'd second Station Inn as a good choice, though I have to admit I've never been there...I'm working on it though. It tends to get a more respectful crowd I think than some of the joints in the district.

I bet the Wildhorse Saloon on 2nd would be a kid friendly place. While there's alcohol there, it's a huge place and very touristy. I've seen many families wander in there before. However, it's not as authentic as some of the places on lower Broadway (Tootsie's, Robert's, Legend's).

Honestly, as long as you're not in the honkytonks at 12 or 1 AM, you'll probably find them to be tolerable for kids that age. I wouldn't want to take a 5 year old in there, but a 12 and 17 year old should be okay at most of the lower Broadway joints from 6-9 PM or so. It's not like they'll get beer spilled on them.
