Yep, still blocked, which is not only an economic disaster but a major safety issue since both fire and law enforcement is being provided by NMB.
A couple weeks ago, one of AB's council members, or maybe a former council member, made a comment at a non-govt meeting that AB was studying either a merger or a dissolution entirely. That set off the damnest firestorm they've had in awhile. The new mayor was quick to separate that from any official town position, but stopped short of completely denying it. The saga continues...
I read about that, it even hit the NBC news. AB councilwoman Carolyn Cole appeared before the Horry County Council and said AB was going to have to dissolve AB or merge with NMB.
It seems to me the state could step in and do something ... especially the money problems and all the fighting and finger pointing at each other.
I haven't been down into AB in years. I google mapped it yesterday and there is so much empty land or ramshackle buildings about to fall down with for sale signs out front. They are sitting on a gold mine of prime real estate property.
From what I've read in the paper, rather than a gold mine they have a spider web of land title issues with multiple interests claiming ownership of beachfront and other properties. Hence the reason that no developer has scooped up the properties for development.
I suspect the same faction-led political wars within the town have led to multiple deed filings etc. over the same properties.
I read Carolyn Cole's comments in the paper and I thought it was clear that she was angling for the SC taxpayers to rescue the town's finances and also fund "historical cultural" ventures in town. Given that the town is having trouble paying her the money she won in a lawsuit against the town over contracts awarded to her husband while she was in office, I think she has MUCH to gain in a state takeover. I also suspect she would have a financial interest in the "historical cultural" ventures.
Very little is done in AB without $$ attached to it for the politicians own pockets...or to stick it to the "other" faction.

Nope, the SC taxpayers don't need to rescue the town's finances if the money goes into corrupt politician's pockets or their relatives & friends.
If a person or company can't get a clear title/deed I can see why there is nothing but weeds growing on empty land. Is there any honest politicians in AB?
Is there any honest politician in SC?? Actually, the "new" mayor, who was originally elected almost 2 years ago and just recently took office, appears to be making an effort to get something going. Not sure how that will work out...

On at least two occasions, the state provided resources experienced in town management and municipal finance to address some of these issues. Both ended up leaving in frustration and failure to make any progress whatsoever. Keep in mind, of course, this is the same state whose DOR computers have an open door policy.
My question to you Law Man is Irene Armstrong was arrested. This is as far as I got. I searched online without success to find any articles, pictures, etc. to support the story. Can you elaborate on that. Also, I heard that the mother and crypt keeper Earlene Evans Woods town slumlord was removed from council because she pulled a gun on someone during a town council meeting. What do you know about that? Thank you.

I was there. I sat right next to her and I witnessed that myself. She is an active member of AB and is tired of the Evans Family and their legacy of corruption. You get rid of them and their brethren the town may have a chance to breath and prosper. Please and thank you.
Atlantic beach is where to go.....if you be looking for some down low......or thats what I suspect anyway...
