Speaking of the 80's, I just scored Depeche Mode tickets for their Woodlands concert in September. My wife and I were disappointed at being unable to afford U2 concert tickets for their November Houston show (oddly enough, the price on those dropped a lot since I originally looked,) and when I saw Depeche Mode was coming to Houston, I bought the tickets when they went on sale this morning. The lawn seats were only $53! (plus the UPS fees, of course). We're so excited! We've never seen them before, and I've been a fan for 30 years So if anyone is in the Houston area and wants to go, the September 24 concert still has tickets available, but there are only about 220 tickets left. This is the new single they will be performing:

Greg's got a great voice. His two solo albums from the early '80s are killer. But I agree: John's voice IS Asia. That said, I love the sound mix from that concert. Way better than the wimpy reverb-soaked studio cuts!

Very late 1989 (spills into 1990 but the decade's "feel" is there). Hericane Alice (misspelled because there was a West Coast band called Hurricane) from Minneapolis, "Wild Young and Crazy". Clean sound.

The Elevators from 1980, sounding a lot like The Cars

Time for some midweek additions to the Never-Been-Posted file cabinet!

Two slammin' — and RARE — official promo videos by Gillan, the early '80s band fronted by, you guessed it, Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan.

Gillan was V2.0 of Ian's solo band, which featured a different line-up than the Ian Gillan Band.

First up is "Sleeping on the Job" from Gillan's 1980 album Glory Road. The second is "Living for the City" from the sixth Gillan album, Magic (1982). "Living for the City" has a hook like you won't believe. I listened to it the other day and it's been stuck in my head ever since. A true earworm. The video's funny, too.

How about a couple more by Gillan? These two are from Double Trouble (1981).

Robbie Nevil's follow-up to "C'est la Vie", with the lovely Brie Howard on percussion. "Wot's It to Ya".
