I really have to agree on "Sole Survivor", very complex song.

Although the song Maggot Brain came out in 1971, this performance was from Germany in 1985. It's a pretty interesting performance. Eddie Hazel was the Funkadelic's main guitarist since it's early days, and around 1977 he left the band, and was replaced by Michael Hampton. Michael Hampton was the Funkadelic guitarist through much of their popular years, but older fans always felt Eddie Hazel was superior. Around the early 80s after the Funkadlic's popular had waned, Eddie Hazel rejoined the group along with Michael Hampton. So what are the results when master meets student in the classic guitar heavy song? Results below.

35 years ago this week in 1981, the album The Great White North came out. A close friend in college was from Ontario, and talked a lot like these guys. Bob and Doug MacKenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas), with help from Geddy Lee, "Take Off".

And as a bonus, in time for the holidays, The Twelve Days of Christmas". Note that they can only get through 8 days.

35 years? Whoa! Strange Brew is one of my favorite comedies. I think it was too out there for US audiences. The bit where Doug is messing around with the synth is hilarious.

Episode #231 of the Never-Before-Posted Files!

From 1988, the official video for "Stand in Line," from the album of the same name by Impelliteri.

The "Impelliteri" was their founder/lead guitarist Chris Impelliteri, known as one of the fastest neoclassical shredders ever. For the album, Chris enlisted British rock great Graham Bonnet to provide his hard-hitting vocals. Graham's a familiar name to fans of Rainbow (Down To Earth), Michael Schenker Group and Alcatrazz (the band where Steve Vai got his professional start, after he replaced Yngwie). Mr. Big's Pat Torpey played drums on the album (that's not him in the video, obviously).

Been a long time since I saw that on Headbangers' Ball. Some precise playing there.
