Amazingly, this was spun off of a small melody being played at the end of the ST-TNG Episode "Inner Light".
Just how it fits in with the events that transpired in the episode makes it a little more somber to listen to.
Misery and Gin - Merle Haggard (Billy Bob's version; the version that really turned this song into a melancholic haunting song; the pace, the phrasing, the mood ... perfect).
This is probably the best recording of a great song, which was composed by a German in North America. It nearly makes me cry. One needs to turn the volume up
My Italian grandmother lived in an apartment down an alley from an irish bar in NYC, in the days before air conditioning. Someone played this song on the juke box all day, every day, and she hated it to no end! I guess she didn't have a radio of her own to drown out the sound. Hearing the story years later, all us grandchildren thought it was funny!
