Yes. That's from 88' I believe. I can't believe I bumped that when I was 9 years old.

As far as rap/hip-hop goes, for me it was the Check Your Head album from the Beastie Boys. For one, the album forced you to start actually taking these guys seriously as artists and musicians after two well-produced (which the B-Boys themselves had nothing to do with) but otherwise farcical albums. Second, they put a completely different spin on rap and hip-hop first by playing live instruments on many of the tracks and also by giving it a heavy infusion of 70s acid-funk complete with tremolo-heavy organ, wah-wah pedals and fuzz on guitars or bass or sometimes the vocals, while everyone else was headed more down the "modern urban R&B" route.
This track (called "Live at PJ's") is so raw, fresh and just plain live that you can hear the snares on the snare drum rattling from the output from the organ/keyboard amp during the interludes. Nobody else was doing hip-hop like that back then, and few have done it since for that matter.

Other tracks from Check Your Head:

"So Watcha Want"

"Pass The Mic"

"Gratitude"

"Something's Got To Give"

Her lyrics aren't the cleanest, but shes still a legend.
They dont have female rappers like her no more.
I loved the Crush of You video - that green hair was HOT!

This one does not really have a video, just a bunch of still shots. But the song is great:

I loved Digital Underground - does anyone remember that movie they were in that starred Chevy Chase and Demi Moore?

Dude had a killer voice. Almost as if James Earl Jones decided to go into rap.

I really dig ''Class Act'' with Kid n Play as that movie was just too funny as the baddest dude in the school swapped identities with the biggest nerd.
