Might be obvious - but Moody Blues had a fute player in their band (but who knows, they loved the mellotron and the studio recordings might have used that). "Legends of a Mind" had a mean flute solo.

That would be Ray Thomas, who had to retire from the band for health reasons. Noted flute work by Ray is evident in "Tuesday Afternoon" as well as "Legend In A Mind".
Chris Wood's best work IMO was on Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die album, released in late 1970. The songs? The title track and "Glad/Freedom Rider" (they run together). Good sax work by Chris regarding "Glad."
