I was surfing around Youtube, don't remember was I was looking for, but ran across a video entitled "
RGA8 vs. Stratocaster: which has more djent?." Well I'm still trying to decide between picking up a Telecaster or a Strat, but had no idea what the hell "djent" was all about so I say what the hell and open up the vid.
After watching the video, I still had no idea what djent was so I looked up on Wiki only to discover that "djent" is:
"Djent,[1] also known as djent metal,[2] is a heavy metal music subgenre that emerged as a spin-off from progressive metal.
Having grown up with Hendrix, the Who, Stones, Grand Funk Railroad, Mountain etc, I've never understood why "heavy metal" was a "genre" of Rock & Roll much less understand why heavy metal has "subgenres".
So to make a short story long, I find a video of the "djent" band "Periphery". I loved the video and the song "Icarus Lives" but I'm still at a loss as to understand why it is a subgenre of a subgenre of a genre of Rock & Roll.
So what's up with all this?
It's still just Rock & Roll to me.
