Destination Inner Space (1966) - IMDb

By today's standards, down there, but it was the 60's and anything underwater could make up for bad acting.........though I wonder if Gerry Merrill was thinking....."this is what I've come to?"?

"London Has Fallen"---
Best exchange: "Did you have to do that?"
"No"
Fewest lines of anyone with a co-star billing:
Melissa Leo as Secretary of State---I think maybe 4 words...

Spotlight, Movies on Demand, 6.00.

Was good and I enjoyed it. I like movies that are based on true stories. This morning though while I of course remember the details of the story I almost have trouble remembering the movie. It starts at one end of the story, and ends at the other end with fairly quiet matter of fact performances by the ensemble cast. I guess they didn't dress up or fictionalize the story to create suspense or drama like ARGO (which was more enjoyable)

The Danish Girl

Didn't love it, but did like it. Liked the actors/acting and costuming. Sad story. Interesting how they presented it -- almost as if "Lili" was a completely separate personality. Eddie Redmayne looked good as a female and did well in the role. (So did Alicia Vikander. Interesting tidbit: evidently she has MORE screen-time than Redmayne does, and yet Redmayne was nominated for Best Actor and she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.)

Also, the movie has Matthias Schoenaerts in a minor role. I think I'll watch anything with him in it. *sigh*

War of the Robots (1978) - IMDb

Part of the collection of "Sci Fi Invasion".

It's down there in the quality but there is something in it, for an afternoon or late night movie, that keeps one watching. It lacks that element which makes one say, "Why am I watching this?". It's not as good as 2019: After the Fall of New York (1983) - IMDb but it is watchable when one has an idle hour or two.

Testament Of Youth

Loved this movie! I don't know if it played here, it was an English movie. True story based on the book by Vera Brittain and her experience as a WW I nurse. Alicia Vikander and Kit Harington who plays Jon Snow on Game of Thrones were in this movie, very well acted by them, especially Alicia, I can see why she won best actress this year.

Kidnapped (2010)
Quote:
Three hooded Eastern-European criminals burst into a home in a Madrid gated community, holding the family hostage in its own home, and forcing the father to empty his credit cards.
Meh. Movie wasn't awful, but I get frustrated when the characters make poor decisions. It leaves me scratching my head.

Reminds me of this:

Good movie, incredibly sad. If I had watched it at home, I would have had a good sob session. But I saw it in the theatre and had to sniffle quietly.

The movie really impressed upon you the great loss of life amongst England's young men, but also the effect that war had on the wives, sweethearts, mothers, and sisters left behind. The men thought they were engaging in something heroic -- at least in the beginning -- and because they were on the front lines, they knew what was happening to themselves. But the women were left at home to wait and wonder, never knowing, scouring the casualty lists, fearing the telegram that would announce the death of one of their young men. I imagine it's similar today, but I guess the limited technologies of the times were made it seem so much worse to me when watching the movie.
