I'm still on my animation movies glom, and watched 'Song Of The Sea' last night. Oh, what a beautiful movie!! I understand it was nominated for an Oscar and I could see why. It's beautifully told, the animation is beautiful (especially the big eyes), and the story is captivating.
The story is derived from an old Irish / Scottish folklore about selkie, a magical being that's a Seal but can turn into Human on land. Highly recommend it.
Three years before Fritz Lang's M, where Peter Lore was marked on his back with a chalked hand, Hitchcock has the lady mark the boy on his back. A couple of must see scenes: 1) transitions from riches to rags - she's changing a bed sheet, flapping it across the camera, then it changes to a checkered table cloth and they are living in squalor. 2) If you're familiar with Ravel's Boléro, Hitch plays the complete song in a scene where she's working as a flower girl in a club and through her pov, she sees a drink being made that she invented long ago.
