Watched Carriers last night - starred Chris Pine (from Star Trek 2009) and District 9 over the weekend

Both great pieces of scifi - the kind I like, low on SFX for the sake of SFX and big on storylines that make you think (not that I'm averse to BIG SFX when I'm in that mood; but I notice the big budget SFX movies tend to be short on credible storylines - think 2012 with Cusak escaping death by inches over and over lol).

edited to add, I forgot - I watched Legion over the weekend as well - wasn't bad.

"Crazy Heart" with Jeff Bridges.

I kept waiting for the story to come into play. It never happened.

I know. Right?
He was a washed up,has been, drunk, country music singer (ok ,that's questionable)
The other characters were unlikeable except for the kid; the kid was cute.

And the moral of the story is.........????

watched Meteor tonight - guess it was a made for tv thing (in 2 parts) - it was good for lots of yelling out loud at the characters idiocy

I really have to get off this end of the world as we know it kick I seem to be on with movies lately (ever notice how humankind and especially authority types always seem to sink to the lowest common denominator when disaster is imminent?)

The Fifth Element. Now I'll go ahead and admit that this is not the greatest movie out there, but even so, it automatically made my personal Top 10 Favorite Movie List! It's not meant to to be the next Star Wars or Blade Runner; it's just an enjoyable sci-fi action film with awesome action scenes and some ridiculous comedy through in (cue Chris Tucker as Ruby Rhod, the most obnoxiously hilarious character I've seen in a while). The storyline was so-so, but hey, not every film needs to be this heavy milestone in cinema. Some films, such as The Fifth Element, are just there to be enjoyed, and I really enjoyed it. Plus, Milla Jovovich is totally hot!
