We started watching that yesterday--my husband didn't finish--I was surprised because he really enjoyed Williams' work...he thought there wasn't lot of new ground broken...
I was struck once again how Williams seemed so internally pressured to be "on" all the time
I felt years ago watching him on Johnny Carson and not being able to sit there and have a conversation w/o going into a comic routine that he was a man who was not really comfortable in his own skin...
I know he had close relationships with other comics--Billy Crystal being one who was on that documentary--
But he didn't seem to have any friends outside the comedy world--perhaps because they were most in tune with his drive to perform...
His children seems alienated from him, his marriages ran on the rocks, even his half-brother didn't seem able to maintain a relationship with him---Pam Dawber showed strong emotion when she related both their early careers on Mork and Mindy and how they lost touch -- because of Williams' drugs use after the show was dropped---and how sad she was learning how Williams died...
That is a sad life, folks...
Great talent paid a great price...
