So many but my absolute favorites are John Williams and James Horner. Who doesn't hear the first few bars from Jaws and automatically knows what it is. And Horner's score for Glory was as memorable as the movie itself.
John Barry's Goldfinger soundtrack is one of my favorites. John Williams has done some wonderful scores too. There are so many great ones from past eras (Korngold, Rosza, etc.) that it's hard to pick one of them to single out. Soundtracks are the last refuge of Romantic-period classical music.
Zimmerman is my favorite. John Williams and James Horner are close behind.
Somewhat related to film are two composers Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix (also known as Two steps from hell). Not sure where the name came from, but they compose music that is used on movie trailers. I got one of their albums and love it. If you are into movie soundtracks, check it out.
Henry Mancini tops my list, thanks to 'The Pink Panther', 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' and many others.
John Williams, James Horner and James Newton Howard are also very high on my list as well.
