We just watched "Don't Look Up," which I would characterize as "Dr Strangelove for the Millennial Generation or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Comet."

If you liked "Dr Strangelove," this movie is for you. It has the possibility of becoming a cult classic.

I enjoyed it. It was actually filmed in my area last year.

I know it is supposed to be an allegory on global warming but I see it as one with regard to covid.

What do you do when a science issue is politicised and you have incompetent people running the show?

I just hope real life doesn't turn out like the movie.

Does Jonah Hill's character get punched in the face? I'd see it if it has that.

I hated it and slept through most of it once I realized how much I hated it. I couldn't find a single funny thing about it no matter what the allegory

A lot of commenters claim it's an analogy of global warming. I certainly saw it as analogous to the covid response.

But it's pretty much the same thing as the government and media response to the Cold War, which is why I saw "Dr Strangelove" in it.

Political theater taking over logic and any measure of common sense.

I thought it was OK. About a 6 out of 10. Certainly no comparison to Dr. Strangelove.

Most of it not particularly funny. Some of it boring.

This was a poor imitation of "This Is the End". Even with all the A list cast it was somewhat bad. I felt it had too many characters and some of the characters were over the top. (Streep and the Steve Job/Tim Cook/Elon Musk Albino guy)

It had a decent story but they just went wacky with it for the fun/comedic factor and after a while it just lost steam.

Absolutely.

A couple of tactical points bugged me about the movie in terms of how they pictured physical responses to the comet threat.

In the three case of rockets being launched at the comet, they always depicted masses of rockets being launched from a single location. It seemed clear to me that was dumb...an explosion of any one of the rockets at launch or considerably farther in flight would cause "fratricide" and perhaps a chain of fratricide.

Why, for instance, would a multi-nation response all launch from a single location rather than from each nation's own established location?

I loved this movie. If you don't find it funny you may want to look in the mirror and see what and who you really are
