Yes. I feel like more was at stake with their reviews. It's hard to trust reviewers on the the internet today.
Ebert's reviews were online - 'on the internet' - long before he passed away.
It's not hard to browse various reviews and discern from context who is giving a reasoned and judicious analysis of a film and whether or not it likely jibes with one's own cinematic preferences. The whole "I can't believe something because it's online!" take is absurd.

Taxi Driver came out in 1976. Ebert was reviewing professionally long before that, in the sixties.
I missed Siskel & Ebert and then later enjoyed Ebert's reviews online (often agreed but not always). I still enjoy reading/rereading his reviews when I watch an older movie.
I used to watch Sneak Previews which then became Siskel and Ebert.
I miss Roger Ebert the most as he was my favorite movie critic.
