This is showing January 4th on CNN. It is an excellent documentary about the life of Roger Ebert.

He was one of my favorite critics and writers. He was basically an atheist, although he did not self identify as one. He had a wonderful world view that I always admired.

I highly recommend the book Life Itself. It was written by a man who realizes and appreciates that he has had a wonderful life, and this feeling comes through very poignantly in the writing.

Several years before he died, he wrote this tremendous piece, of which I've always particularly loved the first paragraph:
Quote:
I know it is coming, and I do not fear it, because I believe there is nothing on the other side of death to fear. I hope to be spared as much pain as possible on the approach path. I was perfectly content before I was born, and I think of death as the same state. What I am grateful for is the gift of intelligence, and for life, love, wonder, and laughter. You can't say it wasn't interesting. My lifetime's memories are what I have brought home from the trip. I will require them for eternity no more than that little souvenir of the Eiffel Tower I brought home from Paris.

it's not death I am afraid of, its the pain I am going to have while getting there. Logically I know it's a waste of time to worry about it past 1 or 2 seconds. I wish I could believe. Religion is not there for logic, it's there for emotion.

I don't like the dude, but thats on me, I bet its a good ...great ... self help book. I can't past his days on tv as a movie guy.

It is not a self help book or documentary. It is more of a biography. You might actually enjoy it.
