Watched Shop Around the Corner tonight. A lot of the movie takes place around Christmas, but really has nothing to do with Christmas.

Iron Man 3 has Christmas music and imagery but it isn't super core to the plot. Similar to Die Hard, theoretically these movies could happen at any time. I mean Skyscrapper was Die Hard but not in Christmas time.

The main theme of Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" (many movie versions available) is about a man examining his life and seeking redemption. It just happened that that Christmas time triggered it. As I posted in the Favorite Christmas Movie thread, a new interpretation will be on the FX channel, Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 PM Pacific time.

The Man Who Came to Dinner. It’s an oldie but a goodie. Bette Davis and Ann Sheridan are grand. You’ll see Jimmy Durante and Ann Wicks too. It always makes me laugh.

The “man” is played with gusto by Monty Wooley.

The first is the best!!
Unlike Die Hard which was set in an office Christmas party with Lethal Weapon the subplot of a possible holiday season suicide because Riggs was alone for the first time

I would disagree. Not that there haven't been Christmas Carol takes that aren't Christmasy like say Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, but most versions of Christmas Carol has scenes from the past and present that are all on Christmas. Christmas is integral to the plot of most versions of Christmas Carol even if Scrooge is changed into a television executive or Fred Flintstone being an idiot while playing Scrooge...
