Exactly. And I'm not necessarily averse to that portrayal, but the difference between clips of Andrews and those of Blunt are striking. Does EB even sing A spoonful of sugar...? I can't picture it lol.
Why would she sing "A Spoonful of Sugar"? It's not a remake.
It was just OK. I watched it for Lin-Manual Miranda. All the parts where there but I'm not sure this kind of movie appeals to children today. Probably mostly people who grew up with the original, like me, will be the ones checking it out.
Pretty good. A bit longer than it needed to be. I can't remember a single tune. Did the original movie character admire herself as much as this version did? When this Mary Poppins relished her reflection in the balloon, that was just a little creepy for me.

yes, kinda.
she looked at her own reflection to ensure she was "practically perfect in every way". can't say she relished her reflection because that wouldn't be practically perfect would it?
but no, I haven't seen it. I saw the trailer at the movie and felt the Mary Poppins in this version had elocution that seemed forced. The first Mary Poppins may have had perfect diction, hat, nose, etc but it was not forced because she WAS practically perfect totally serious but an undercurrent of lightheartedness.
so I didn't want to see this version , it just seemed less.

Totally agree. Being of a certain age, to have seen the original, in the theatre, Julie Andrews was indeed practically perfect in each and every way for me, too.
Kinda like Sean Connery as 007. Every subsequent actor just.... doesn't.... compare.
