My guess is you're thinking of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, because Big John was the artist for that.

Buscema was a workhorse with a great style, just like all the others I mentioned.

You can't pick "one artist" to represent an entire publisher. Think of all the Ditko fanatics: His Spider-Man is still "their" Spider-Man.

I'm thinking of this, which I read at least 101 times as a kid:

I just did.

Seriously, for me, John Buscema is the Marvel Comics artist by which all others are judged and found wanting.

I love Big John, too, but maybe you need to check out more artists. I posted a pretty sweet list.

All good to great artists. (I never much cared for Frank Miller's art, though I liked some of his writing.) But none are Buscema. Kinda like Paul McCartney is a decent vocalist, but he's no Roger Daltrey. David Bowie was a great vocalist, but he was no Freddie Mercury.

There is the King, and there is everyone else. They may be knights in shining armor, but they still aren't the king.

John Buscema was the king of Marvel Comics art.

All o' "King" Kirby's people would like a word with you.

It's all good. Everyone has their faves. I like having a range.

For example, show me which other artist can draw like Bernie Wrightson (RIP). You won't find one. There's only one Bernie Wrightson. If I pick only ONE artist to represent everything for my world, Bernie is it.

I love Bernie's art. Love it. The level of detail is just stunning. But his best stuff was never in Marvel, but for other publishers.

Yes, his work for DC > his work for Marvel, because he drew heaps more for the former. But you see that Doctor Strange illustration, right?

His single best opus is his labor of love, Frankenstein. It's an exhibition in one volume of everything he can do, and yet it wouldn't be enough for me. I love everything else he did, too.

Bernie wasn't always about hyper-detail. I love his mood pieces.
