I'm a sucker for movies with strong female leads, super heroines, assassins, any woman that can just kick booty left and right.
I'm kind of disappointed though because I don't think Lynda Carter is going to be in this one as a cameo. I always like it when they pay tribute to actors who played the role previously in a TV series, by giving them a cameo role.
Is there something to be said about superhero historical pics? Do they work better for us when the superhero appears in a simpler, more black-and-white, less cynical time?

Not necessarily. I wouldn't overthink this too much. The real answer holds true of any movie, not just the super hero genre. The formula is pretty simply.
XWriter + YDirector = Final Quality. Where X = Quality and Y = Talent/Skill.
A good director shooting a good script stands a good chance of producing a good movie. A bad director shooting a bad script never ever produces a good movie, no matter how much marketing or special effects you throw into it.
