@Mark, It seems Ben Affleck has received mixed reviews as the new Batman. I haven't seen Argo yet, the Town however...I do think someone else would have better "fit the bill"

The list is definitely telling, especially as Ledger's joker is testimonial...As I thought of who could play a good older/mature Batman: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Anson Mount...I never considered Affleck probably because I never considered an A list celebrity. Whether or not he'll be good or bad, I just don't know.
