I did end up watching it. It has potential, I am a Gabby Union fan. We'll see what happens. I tend to go for more soapy or more action in my tv shows. This might be too much drama for me.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

I agreee; it has potential. There was enough realness in the writing to keep me entertained

TBH, as a young black women, I really want the black romcoms to end. They were at their height in the 90s along with great black drama films, but the romcoms and melodramatic black dramas have been done to death in recent years. We need to branch out into different genres and break down stereotypes.

Right now Tyler Perry is the biggest thing in black Hwood with all of his popular (yet obnoxiously annoying Medea) films and film studio in ATL. He has the power to produce good films but refuses to make more of the same melodramatic, overly religious romcoms he's always been putting out. We need something new and fresh. More new young black actors, directors, screenplay writers, etc.

Yeah, God forbid black folks would put an end to the persecution of people based on sexual orientation.

Yeah putting a gay dude in a movie for comic relief isn't exactly open & accepting of gay people.

It's not always for comic relief, though, is it?

I've rarely seen an instance where it wasn't. Maybe that one scene in Poetic Justice where the one guy finds out he has HIV?

But generally its comic relief, even if the movie isn't a comedy.

There's still some. But honestly, I'd like to see blacks take a more prominent role in other genres. We can't just blame Tyler Perry. He's at least putting other black people to work, not just on the screen but behind the scenes as well. Fact of the matter is, other black folks just aren't writing things or producing films. There are lots of talented, young, black writers out there. But a lot of them are too caught up in their own little self-absorbed intellectual bubble to ever produce anything.
