For anyone familiar with the "Jack Reacher novels of Lee child; does it seem more than passing strange they'd pick a Hobbit like Tom Cruise to play a described character of 6'4 weighing over 240 with the muscle bulk of Hulk Hogan?

I mean get serious here; I know Tom Cuise has bankability but shouldn't the actor playing the movie's lead character have at least a minimal resemblance to the book's hero?

Tom Cruise going to wear 12" lifts and padding up the ying yang for this role of a brutal thug master of a good guy?

How will Tom Cruise be able to run in heels?

I just saw this in a TV add and couldn't believe it. I don't care that TC is short in real life they can fix that. He doesn't have any of the rest of it, not the rest of the look, not the presence, NOTHING. WORST CASTING EVER! TC ought to be ashamed of himself.
I love Reacher and I'm so sick of overpaid hollywood idiots RUINING things.
Not that I'm going to go see it.
Can't believe Lee Childs fell for this.

Who should it be then?

Long gone are the action heros of yesteryear that had the height and bulk like Arnold, Dolph, JCVD, Sly.

Maybe Hugh Jackman. He is 6'3", and has the frame for it. Gerard Butler, how tall is he?

I hate, hate, hate that TC is playing Jack Reacher. I told my sister that they have to build a trench around him so that the other actors can stand in it so that TC can appear the proper height.

There is just NOTHING about TC that says "Jack Reacher". UGH. Way to ruin another good thing.

Reacher was first and foremost a Military guy. Security. A hunter, an enforcer. And he can fight. Brawl really. Long arms, big hands, a large square masculine skull, wide square shoulders, a militaryish hair cut. Someone who can just stand there and look like what he is. Reacher doesn't emote or get excited so they must look the part. They might as well have cast Kristie Alley as Tom Cruise.

Let's let him know our displeasure at this obvious screw-up of a choice for his title character.

I had posted the direct link to Mr Childs website found on his book jacket of "A Wanted Man" before actually perusing his site myself. Upon doing so; I was summarily warned by MS Essentials antivirus that the site was very suspect so I removed the direct link so people would not get themselves hacked or some other virus-laden nastiness.

Sorry!

Perhaps Lee Child had nothing to say about who was cast. Many times the ownership of the property is sold to someone that wants to make the movie.

Yep. The same book jacket clearly states that all of the Reacher series has been otioned for major motion pictures. Clearly that entity does not place any cachet on the sanctity of the written story.

That's a pity.

I saw the preview and nearly threw up in my seat. What a blunder for the casting crew. I probably will not go see it cause I can't stand TC anyway, and he will ruin my image of Reacher.
