He's 6'2. You're going to be hard pressed to find a decent actor much taller than him. As for the ethnic look, I don't see it at all. His fake American accent is what would kill him in the role.

OK, so I got the chance to ask my FIL about this. He says while Child is saying all the "right" things in public, behind closed doors he's shaking his head...

How about Liev Schreiber? He's got the height and the presence.

TC ... omg.

This discussion of Tom Cruise and his height being wrong for the role has me agreeing with others that there are too few very tall American actors who can play action roles. Some British guys, some Aussies, but where are the tall American tough guys?

I think Jackman could have pulled this off....TC is going to kill this project off after the first movie. First I seen or heard of this was on TV too. Thought I was seeing things

He didn't need to sleep with anyone... he just needed to open his wallet. While Paramount nominally owns the rights, Cruise was the main financier. In short, he bought the rights so that he could cast himself.

Its just such an abuse
in so many ways

He must have bought a lot of postive pre-press too because I've been hearing movie critics defending the idea that what the actor looks like or how tall he is.

Maybe for some roles but Reacher hardly talks! Its all about his physicality

As the O/P I'm back on here to say that the stupid casting could actually harm anyone's future desire to read the series.

The perfect example of what happens when you sell the "entire" rights to a property without retaining control over that which matters the most; the originality integrity maintenance.

Lee might come to regret this more than he presently realizes.
