It's not so much about his height as his lack of tough guy manliness. Think of the early Chuck Norris movies. He's about the same height as TC. Charles Bronson wasn't tall either but his confidence and tough guy attitude made him seem bigger on screen.

Let's go back to Hugh Jackman The guy has it all.

CN & CB aren't my (female) idea of manliness...

I was disappointed about the choice of TC. Not at all what I pictured when I read the books. I've watched a trailer for the movie. In the books, Reacher's size and build is always a major part of his character, and TC definitely doesn't have that size and build. He also has too much hair.

I don't know who I would have liked to see as Reacher...maybe Jason Statham.

At first I laughed at TC playing the hulking badass Jack Reacher, but then I remembered he's actually a better actor than a lot of us realize. After all: he DID (pretty much) pull of being a Civil War hero who became an adept Samurai fighter in The Last Samurai.
And he also portrayed a pretty convincing ruthless assasin in Collateral Damage.
So maybe he can pull-off Reacher.

But I wouldn't have cast him had it been up to me. Viggo Mortenson coulda done a good job, I think.

I stopped reading the series once I heard about this casting months ago. It ruined the stories for me, picturing Cruise in the role.

Agreed. Terrible choice. I like Gerard Butler, Eli Roth and Ryan Reynolds for the role as far as size/presence goes. The only thing I'm not sold on is how Butlers accent seems like it is about to break out when he is trying to speak with an American accent.

Butler's too short and too ethnic-looking. Reacher is an all-American type.

I think Coby Bell who plays an ex-special forces guy on Burn Notice would have been good. I saw the trailer over the weekend and thought the casting was a terrible mistake.

I think Nicolas Brody (Homeland) is the right choice. Can't think of his real name. But I love him. His military image and bad boy personality is Jack Reacher totally.
